I gave a lecture called ‘Art, Fashion and Identity’ at Southampton Solent University in February 2011. The lecture took the recent Royal Academy show of the same name as its opening theme, and then moved onto a discussion of the meanings and implications of the work in the show and other, related work in a contemporary context.
I am taking part in the Valentine's exhibition at Globe Gallery, Weybridge. throughout Feb 2011. see http://www.globegallery.co.uk/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=839.
The Bridget Riley Connection
I’ve been asked a few times lately if I’m related to the artist Bridget Riley. Some people have even seen likenesses in the work. I'd be flattered, but I see little to connect the work.
As for being related to Bridget Riley: yes and no. To Bridget Riley the artist: no, not at all, unless someone knows otherwise.
As for being related to Bridget Riley per se: yes I am. My great-grandmother on my father’s side was Bridget Riley.

My new book is now published:
Barsteadworth College – How Workplace Bullies Get Away With It by Dr. Stephen Riley is now available in PAPERBACK (ISBN: 9781849911825).
This new edition is revised and re-edited from the e-book version published in summer 2009.
It is available from bookstores and from the publisher – Chipmunka Publishing. Log on to http://www.chipmunkapublishing.co.uk to order.
The book is written as a novel, but is very much informed by real personal experience. It concerns workplace bullying, its damaging psychological effects and institutionalised suppression of complaints about bullying.
The book will be of interest to individuals who have had similar experiences to those described, to general readers with an interest in novels which explore life in contemporary society and, as a case study, to professionals with specialist concerns in this area: trainers, personnel managers, counsellors, health professionals, lecturers and welfare organisations.
Quotes:
“I think the book is an important one and can help people. No-one should be bullied like you were.” Jason Pegler, CEO, Chipmunka Publishing, London
“The reader must have a lot of strength to read it and not to become sad. After reading I got a little bit aggressive and I don’t know why.” Ulrike Flitner, Librarian, Munich
“A truly captivating, authentic story that candidly describes the all too frequent act of targeted bullying in the contemporary work world. This is a survival guide and a must read for all of us who have been or are experiencing the same. The writer really knows his stuff.” Catherine Finnegan, Fashion Designer
If you wish to discuss aspects of the book further, please email me on stephenriley8@hotmail.com. I am happy to work with the media and other organisations to spread understanding of the issues and broaden the debate.
