Stephen Riley in Northern Soul: Still Burning

In the Movies!

Northern Soul: Still Burning
I am delighted to announce that I feature in the movie Northern Soul: Still Burning.
As those who know me personally are well aware, I am a northern soul fanatic. I have been into the music since I was a kid, I attended all those legendary 1970s clubs, I DJ – an online radio show and live events – and have written two books on the subject: ‘The Truth About Northern Soul’ and ‘Soul Stories’, both of which can be found in the Books section of this site.
As a consequence of the above, I was invited by the director, Alan Byron, to take part in the film, and I was thrilled to do so. It was released on 15 May and is currently on show nationwide. It is the follow-up to Northern Soul: Keeps On Burning (2012), Alan’s first filmic excursion into the scene, and it explores how things have changed and moved on since that time. Halfway through the year, The Guardian has named it one of the best films of 2026 so far.
In case your wondering, no, I don’t dance in the film – I just give interviews, as befits my age! though I do still dance in real life, in clubs, when there are no cameras around!
